A few nights back I had trouble to sleep, and turned on the light. To my shock I saw a spider against my wall. As you can guess, I am not very fond of spiders, and started to panic. The smaller ones I can handle…the big ones…not so good! The first thing I did was to run out of the room. There I stood, in front of my room, to scared to go in, and that all because of a spider. After a few minutes I finally got the nerves together to go in, and could not see the spider anywhere. Thoughts went through my head…what if he is behind my pillow…what if he bites me…what if there is more than one! In this hectic conversation that I was busy having with myself, God suddenly spoke to me and said: “You just allowed something small to take control of you, why don’t you just go to sleep, and trust that I’ll protect you”.
This was so true, I ended up being scared, and standing outside of my room…all because of a spider! Then it hit me, how often do we see “spider problems” in life. The first sight of the spider makes us think…and think…ending up with a list of bad things that could or might happen. The more we panic, and take things into our own hands…the more we end up standing scared and alone feeling out of control. The “spider” ends up taking over and stealing our thoughts and in my case even my room! The truth is that most of the times, the problem might not even be half as bad as we make it to be. What we see as dangerous might be harmless! I turned of the light, and had a wonderful peaceful night’s sleep. The Lord promised to protect me, and I just trusted him in faith to take control…and He did!
I have no idea what happened to the spider. Perhaps he could still be somewhere in my room, I don’t know, but what I do know, is despite of the “spiders” that are everywhere in life…the Lord is in control! What I learned from the entire experience is that spiders in life…should be “no big deal!
